Park Cities School of Music to Give Away Prize Guitar at Talent Show

0

There are many instruments hung on the walls of Park Cities School of Music (PCSOM): a trombone, a flute, a trumpet, and — for now — one special acoustic guitar, which will be awarded to the winner of PCSOM's upcoming 5-year anniversary talent show.

Electric and acoustic guitar, bass, ukulele, and banjo are often the instruments of choice for kids and adults at PCSOM. PCSOM and their sister school Lakewood Conservatory of Fine Arts are the only Dallas providers of the Childbloom guitar method, in which music is arranged in parts and students not only learn solo playing skills, but ensemble skills as well.

The Immaculate Heart Program was initiated to fully realize Holy Trinity Catholic School's mission of developing the whole child by meeting the needs of one of the most underserved and underperforming groups in catholic schools, children with dyslexia.

The program is rooted in early assessment, remediation, and classroom teacher training. A Certified Dyslexia Therapist provides direct instruction for students identified with dyslexia, while a Certified Academic Language Therapist works alongside the classroom teacher to support accommodations necessary for academic success.

Park Cities School of Music will ring in their five-year anniversary this fall with a celebration of young talent in the Park Cities and beyond.

Founder and instructor Eva Brandys, along with her staff of elite music teachers, will host a Talent Show & Open House September 10, in which kids ages 5-18 can step on stage and perform for the chance to win a guitar and a trophy, and to have their picture seen on parkcitiespeople.com.

There will be drinks and bites and an art activity room where kids can participate in an art contest produced by Park Cities School of Music’s sister school, Lakewood Conservatory of Fine Arts, specializing in music, art and dance lessons.

Pray with your Pets This Sunday

0

All God’s creatures are welcome this Sunday at NorthPark Presbyterian Church for the 3rd annual Blessing of the Pets.

We’re looking forward to lots of new faces and furry guests!

Casual dress is encouraged and pets should be on leashes or in kennels or cages. Bowls and terrariums are acceptable too, of course.

NorthPark recommends visitors choose a seat in the church’s sanctuary based on the comfort level and sociability of your pet. For pets that are deceased, or for those not crowd or child-friendly, pet owners are encouraged to bring a photo instead.

The theology behind pet blessings is hundreds of years old, says lead pastor, Rev. Brent Barry.
