Thanksgiving Service at NorthPark Presbyterian

While Thanksgiving is a national holiday, the tradition of giving thanks at the end of the harvest is a religious event celebrated worldwide. The practice of giving thanks in November is in fact quite biblical. Scripture abounds with thanksgiving to God, for thanksgiving is part of the Christian way of life, no matter our circumstances.

We invite you to join us Tuesday Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. for NorthPark Presbyterian’s Service of Thanksgiving and Gratitude – an evening worship service in celebration of the blessings God has provided.

Communion will be served. All are welcome at the Lord’s table as we praise God and give thanks for the gift of grace.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
—Philippians 4:6

Park Cities School of Music Announces Talent Show Winner

Amelia McAnear's rendition of Taylor Swift's "Love Story" earned her the first place prize at the Park Cities School of Music's Five-Year Anniversary Talent Contest on Saturday Sept. 10.

McAnear, 12, who studies voice under Lainey Bernstein, stole the show among many other courageous young contestants who took to the stage. Kids ages 5-18 were eligible to compete and win an acoustic guitar. Some kids practiced for weeks leading up to the big day and others took their chances at the last minute.

Local singer/songwriter Sean Canavin and composer Mark Landson, director of Open Classical, judged the contest and awarded McAnear a certificate for a custom acoustic guitar and free lessons at the Park Cities School of Music. Alexander Hail, 12, came in at second place, while Savannah Hail, 10, took third.

Park Cities School of Music to Give Away Prize Guitar at Talent Show

There are many instruments hung on the walls of Park Cities School of Music (PCSOM): a trombone, a flute, a trumpet, and — for now — one special acoustic guitar, which will be awarded to the winner of PCSOM's upcoming 5-year anniversary talent show.

Electric and acoustic guitar, bass, ukulele, and banjo are often the instruments of choice for kids and adults at PCSOM. PCSOM and their sister school Lakewood Conservatory of Fine Arts are the only Dallas providers of the Childbloom guitar method, in which music is arranged in parts and students not only learn solo playing skills, but ensemble skills as well.

The program is rooted in early assessment, remediation, and classroom teacher training. A Certified Dyslexia Therapist provides direct instruction for students identified with dyslexia, while a Certified Academic Language Therapist works alongside the classroom teacher to support accommodations necessary for academic success.
