Cupcakes For Charity You Say? We’re in

rsz_cupcake3Hockaday graduate Lauren Okada loves cupcakes. She also loves doing good and helping her community. That’s why she founded Cupcake Camp Dallas, which will take place at University Park United Methodist Church on May 9.

This is the fourth installation of the event, and proceeds go toward the LEAP Foundation, which provides free surgical care to children in impoverished communities around the world.

Here’s how it works: you show up any time between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. You pay $10 per kid (free for adults accompanying children, but still $10 if you’re a sans-child adult) — that gets you two cupcakes automatically.

But you won’t want to stop there. No, your appetite for cupcakes is insatiable, and the appeal of doing good by eating them only increases your hunger.

More than 20 area bakeries will display more than 3,000 cupcakes for the taking. There will also be face painting (see left), balloon animals, bounce houses, a photo booth, and cupcake-eating contest for kids and adults.

Let the sugar rush commence.
