Film aficionados can salute our veterans and support a worthy cause at this weekend’s Stars & Stripes Film Festival at the Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station.

The second annual festival will include four days of screenings of new and old films that pay tribute to military heroism or first responders. And it will include speakers such as Gen. Tommy Franks at a Friday luncheon and others after each screening.

One highlight comes on Sunday with the premiere of a new documentary called In Defense of Freedom, highlighting the efforts of veterans who attended Highland Park High School. Syd Carter, who is an honorary chairman of the event, will hold a Q&A afterward.

Proceeds will benefit Sons of the Flag, a nonprofit organization that provides resources for military and first-responder burn survivors. You can find a complete schedule and ticket information here.
