HP LitFest, a “Huge Success”

Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Stanford University professor Dr. Adam Johnson with Amanda Lewis (L) and Jill Tananbaum (R), co-chairs of the 22nd Annual Highland Park Literary Festival.

The 2018 HP LitFest was a “huge success” with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Dr. Adam Johnson of Stanford University providing powerful, fascinating presentations on his research in North Korea for his book, The Orphan Master’s Son, event planners said.

The author spoke at the event late February.

In concurrence, all Highland Park High School attended one of 70 workshops of their choice on a variety of topics provided by 29 different professional writers, authors, poets, songwriters, producers, editors, journalists, photojournalists, sportswriters, and graphic novelists.

New this year, author Wendy Lichtman conducted a literary workshop at Highland Park Middle School about her book, Secrets, Lies and Algebra.

HP LitFest also presented the ever-popular Open Mic Night at the Dallas Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Snider Plaza where more than 50 HPHS students attended the fun evening supporting 18 students who showcased their original poetry, improvisation, vocal performances – some accompanied by guitar, ukulele & piano, as well as instrumental solos.

Currently in its 22nd year, the Highland Park Literary Festival is a community event that would not be possible without the ongoing commitment of so many volunteers and donors, including La Fiesta de las Seis Banderas, HP Arts, HPHS PTA, PC TAG, Frost Bank, Elliott & Elliott of Dave-Perry Miller Real Estate, and hundreds of individual donors.
