SMU Hosts Book Signing For Former Runner

BookCoverFormer SMU distance runner Monika Korra will return to campus on Tuesday for a celebration surrounding the release of her book, Kill the Silence: A Survivor’s Life Reclaimed.

The inspirational book recounts the Norway native’s harrowing experience during her sophomore year in December 2009, when she was raped by three men while leaving a party, and the courage she later showed in helping to bring her attackers to justice.

Korra will sign books and speak during the event, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Hall of Fame Club at Moody Coliseum. Books cost $25 each, with proceeds benefiting efforts to help break the silence about rape and sexual assault.

Monika Kørra is a woman of great courage. Her story is remarkable. I would like to see SMU name a scholarship after her to be awarded to a deserving student-athlete.

Some credit for writing the book, Kill the Silence: A Survivor’s Life Reclaimed, should be given to Gary Brozek and Jenna Glatzer. They were ghostwriters on the project.
