SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: RENTED ACCOMPLICE
Rental bikes aren't just for leisurely rides through Dallas; they also can be used as transportation to potential crime scenes. Around 2:20 p.m. March 6, a man with long hair was witnessed riding a yellow Ofo rental bike to Bradfield Elementary School where he upgraded to an orange/red Cannondale Catalyst, valued at $499, and a matching helmet, valued at $40
A 2013 tan Chevrolet Tahoe that had its third-row seat stolen six months ago is now without a radio navigation system. Sometime overnight before 2 a.m., the system was stolen from the vehicle while parked in a circular driveway in the 3200 block of St. Johns Drive. Also around that time, in the 3300 block of St. Johns Drive, a 2013 black GMC Yukon Denali also was broken into. Its navigation system had been unscrewed, but still remained inside the vehicle.
Stolen before 9 a.m.: the third-row seat, valued at $500, from a 2007 black Chevrolet Tahoe locked and parked in the driveway of a home in the 4600 block of Beverly Drive. A woman, who lived at the property, said around 5:30 a.m. she'd heard multiple car doors being slammed outside, thought it was odd, but did nothing about it.
Around 10 p.m., a resident reported to police that sometime between 9:30 p.m. March 1 and 9:30 a.m. March 2, the tailgate of his 2013 white Ford F150 was stolen while parked in the 3400 block of St. Johns Drive.
A poolman was bitten around 10 a.m. by a blind white dog while on the job in the 4700 block of Drexel Drive. The dog was placed on a 10-day in-home quarantine.
Around 1:15 p.m., a woman presumed to be in her 40s walked into an unlocked home in the 4800 block of Preston Road and stole $800 in cash and some debit cards from a decorative container on a nightstand in a bedroom.
After withdrawing $800 from a Chase Bank in the 4500 block of Lemon Avenue, a man went shopping at the Whole Foods in the 4100 block of Lomo Alto, leaving the money in his 2014 white Chevrolet Corvette. Fifteen minutes later, he found the front passenger side window of his vehicle smashed and the money was gone.
A 63-year-old resident reported to police around 11:45 from his home in the 3800 block of Centenary Drive that sometime between Feb. 27 and Monday he was swindled out of $9,400 for goods that never arrived.
A parking issue between two neighbors in the 3500 block of Asbury Drive led to the tire of a Ford vehicle being slashed sometime between 4 and 4:20 p.m. The damage was estimated at $250.
Stolen overnight: A 2017 white GMC Sierra, valued at $48,000, parked overnight in a parking garage at the Plaza at Preston Center.
Stolen between midnight and 5 a.m.: the factory stereo/DVD system, valued at $1,500, from an unlocked 2008 burgundy GMC Yukon parked in the 4400 block of San Carlos Drive.
The stereo and window control panel, valued together at $1,650, were stolen before 5 a.m. from an unlocked 2011 black GMC Yukon parked overnight in the 4200 block of San Carlos Drive.
A locked 2013 black Cadillac Escalade parked overnight in the 4400 block of Potomac Avenue was broken into sometime before 5 a.m., and the stereo, valued at $1,500, was stolen.
A 2012 black Chevrolet Tahoe parked in the 4200 block of Normandy Avenue was broken into overnight sometime before 5 a.m. in an attempt to steal the stereo.
Stolen around 2:10 p.m.: a package holding an iPod, valued at $200, from the front porch of a home in the 3600 block of Hanover Street.
Stolen before 8 a.m.: A laptop, Apple Air, a calculator, Dr. Dre Beats, and a briefcase, collectively valued at $2,900, were stolen from an unlocked white GMC Sierra parked overnight in the 3500 block of Hanover Street.
