Not sure where my brain was when I wrote in my football game story on the Highland Park-Everman contest for today’s Park Cities People that the Scots have not lost a non-district game since 2004. As a reader pointed out to me a minute ago, the Scots lost to Coppell in a non-district game last season.

Not real sure how I could have forgotten that game last season, seeing as how it wasn’t even quite a year ago, but I somehow managed. My bad.

If a student does not respond to the faculty chaperone’s request to change his/her dancing style, he/she will be escorted off the floor.

One of the best parts of my job is also one of the easiest and most rewarding: Publishing photos of kids having fun.

Kids love seeing their photos in the paper, parents love seeing their kids in the papers, and organizations like schools and Scouts love the free promotion — it’s win-win-win.

The Rev. Arville McLain officiated. Music was provided by organist Chris Brunt, accompanied by Kate Martin on flute. Soloist Natalie Arduino sang “Ave Maria” and “Panis Angelicus.” A reception with dinner and dancing to the Hunter Sullivan band followed at the Crescent Club, where the bride and groom waltzed to “What a Wonderful World.”

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lancy Hill of Baton Rouge, La., and Mr. Kenneth Adams of Rayville, La. The groom is the son of Mr. Charles Phipps and the late Mary Claire Phipps of Dallas.

The bride wore a shimmering, pale silver, beaded cocktail dress with embroidered illusion trim by Marchesa and carried a bouquet of miniature white calla lilies and deep purple lilacs, collared by green and white ladyslipper orchids.

Junior bridesmaids were Claire Cannatti and Marcella Cannatti, nieces of the groom. They wore tea-length dresses of white silk dupioni with matching boleros and carried bouquets of purple anemones and orchids.

Leo Whelan served as best man. Ushers were Michael Cannatti, brother-in-law of the groom, and Louis Cannatti, nephew of the groom.

Honorary flower girl was Kayleigh Toncrey, cousin of the bride.

The bride is a graduate of Texas A&M University and University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and practices dermatology in Las Colinas. The groom is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and works in the field of renewable energy. After a honeymoon in Quebec, the couple resides in Highland Park.

As your trusty sports editor, I feel like it’s my duty to keep you apprised of all of the sports happenings that have a Park Cities connection.

In case you can’t make it to the Highland Park-Monterrey (Mexico) Tec game at Highlander Stadium tomorrow night, where I will be, you could mosey out to the Cotton Bowl and check out the Lingerie League season opener between the Dallas Desire and the San Diego Seduction. After all, Dallas only has two home games in the brutally-long four-game season.

The Park Cities tie? Word is the Desire have been practicing at Germany Park and at Goar Park. Has anybody out there been fortunate enough to witness this?

I have a solid rule in my house, no Facebook until you’re 13. Period. I just didn’t think it felt right to allow my kid to enter a fake birthday in order to meet the Facebook terms and create a profile. It seems hard to approve that and then say you can’t lie about other stuff.

But in many ways, I wish I hadn’t made the rule. I can’t back down now so thankfully a September birthday will solve it all very shortly. But when I got this e-mail from a totally awesome HPISD teacher, I wondered if the remaining holdout parents of 12 year old 7th graders should give in and let it go, you know, for academic reasons. Maybe I should have given in sooner.

I have a class Facebook set up and encourage the kids to add me as a friend. I am on for about a half hour to forty-five minutes a night a few days a week and tutor through Facebook. It allows the kids to ask questions, check on homework and assignments and get time with me once school is out.

This is a teacher who is spending her own time in a strategic cyber-locale to help kids succeed in her class. Rock. Star. But should parents let their kids lie to be more academic?

One of the most effective ways of keeping crime at bay is getting to know your neighbors. So it’s a good thing that Highland Park DPS and the Highland Park Crime Watch have teamed up with Highland Park Village to bring neighbors and businesses together for the town’s first-ever Night Out event on Oct. 5.

But the event won’t put itself together, that’s for sure. If you or your business is interested in volunteering for HP’s Night Out, get in touch with Detective Marty Nevil at mnevil@hpdps.org or via phone at 214-559-9487. The committee for the event has a couple of open spots, so if you’ve got a knack for organizing, they could use your help!

If you want to become a member of HP Crime Watch, you can sign up on their website or e-mail info@hpcrimewatch.org for more information.
