Lady Scots Roll Past Nimitz in Playoff Opener

It’s become customary for Highland Park to be ready for the opening round of the girls soccer playoffs, and Thursday was no exception.

Sarah O’Neal scored four goals as HP cruised past Irving Nimitz 10-0 in the Class 6A Region II bi-district round at Highlander Stadium.

Savanna Jones and Frances Ann Matise added two goals apiece for the Lady Scots (19-3-1), who have shut out four straight opponents by a combined margin of 28-0.

HP will need that momentum heading into the area round next week, in which the Lady Scots — who were the 6A state runner-up last season — will face nationally ranked Sachse (21-0-1) in a powerhouse matchup. The Lady Mustangs topped Harker Heights 10-0 on Thursday.

O’Neal became the third HP player to score four goals in a game this season. Riley Malone and Jones each accomplished the feat in separate 10-0 wins over Richardson during the regular season.
