In Gabby Crank’s final appearance at the UIL state track and field meet, she brought home some hardware.

The decorated Highland Park senior took a silver medal in the Class 6A girls 800 meters on Saturday in Austin. Her time of 2 minutes, 10.6 seconds was more than a second behind state champion Aaliyah Miller of McKinney Boyd. However, Crank broke a school record from 1987 by more than two seconds.

It was Crank’s fourth appearance at the state meet, and also her fourth time running in the 800. She finished fourth in the event in Class 4A as a freshman and a junior, and claimed a bronze medal as a sophomore. Crank also won a silver medal during her sophomore year in the triple jump.

Crank’s familiarity with the track at Mike A. Myers Stadium will come in handy beginning in the fall, when she enrolls at the University of Texas and joins the track team as a preferred walk-on.
