Alexandra Thornton, a freshman at Highland Park High School, won a silver medal in all three of her events at the USA Olympic Weightlifting Youth Nationals this summer in Minneapolis.

She placed second in the 53-kilogram weight class for ages 14-15 in the snatch (123.5 pounds), clean and jerk (158.7 pounds), and overall (282.2 pounds).

Her performance ranked Thornton as the fourth best lifter in her age group in the country. It also earned her a trip to the Elite Olympic Weightlifting Development camp in July in Colorado Springs, Colo.
