For the second time in three days, Highland Park turned in a dominant performance in the Class 6A Region II volleyball playoffs.

The Lady Scots swept Sachse on Thursday in Plano in the area round, 25-14, 25-22, 25-16, and advanced to the regional quarterfinals in their first season at the state’s highest classification.

After dropping a set in their playoff opener against Irving MacArthur on Tuesday, HP (30-15) had no such issues against the Mustangs (28-16), who never were able to gain much momentum.

The upcoming third-round match against Waco Midway, slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Red Oak, should provide plenty of motivation for the Lady Scots. It’s the same round in which HP has been eliminated in each of the past two years, and — although nobody on the current team would remember — Midway ousted the Lady Scots from the playoffs in both 2006 and 2007.

The Lady Panthers, who won the District 12-6A title during the regular season, easily dispatched Lake Highlands in three sets on Thursday in the area round.
