Local Girl Needs Your Help

Ann Hinckley Anderson (pictured), a 2-year-old member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, has a very serious blood disorder and needs a bone marrow transplant. Because no one in her family is a donor match, Ann’s parents, John and Nancy, hope to spread the word about a registry that could help her and others on a national waiting list.

Want to get involved?

Healthy people ages 18 to 60 are encouraged to join the National Bone Marrow Registry during a blood drive and registration event starting 8:30 a.m. Sunday at HPUMC. Testing is simple and painless — a cotton swab inside the cheek, basically— and signup just takes a few minutes.  Should you be a match for Ann or someone else on the list, the actual donation process is usually a non-surgical procedure with little discomfort, according to the NBMR website.
To learn more or have a test kit mailed to your home, visit bethematch.org. I found good information here, too.
