Robert Leland Shaw Jr.

Robert Leland Shaw Jr. passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 2. Bob will be remembered here on Earth for his friendship, leadership, courage, sense of humor, and faith. Over the last two years he fought pancreatic cancer with grace and humor, and his optimistic, yet realistic attitude was an example for all who knew him.

Bob was born in Dallas on Jan. 6, 1954, to Robert L. Shaw and JoAnn Cantwell Shaw. He was an Eagle Scout, a graduate of Richardson High School, and a graduate of the University of Texas, where he was a member and president of Kappa Alpha Order and a member of the Silver Spurs. Bob was also a member and president of the Dervish Club.

On Dec. 3, 1983, he married Ann Bruns and they have four sons: Bobby, John, Will, and Peter. Bob was a principal in the architecture firm Smithgroup/F&S where he started working in 1978. He was active in the Dallas AIA, where he served as president in 1993 and held leadership positions in the Texas Society of Architects. An active community volunteer, Bob was a member of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas and a leader in BSA Troop 70. A lifelong member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, he served as a Sunday school teacher and elder.

In addition to his wife and sons, he is survived by his brothers Steve; David and wife, Blair; Allan and wife, Cyndi; Bill and wife, Lisa; and brother-in-law John Bruns and wife Bet; nieces and nephews David, Madeline, and Charlie Shaw; Leah and Anna Shaw; Holly and Hannah Kelley; Hayden Shaw; and Abby, Will, Jack, and Caroline Bruns.
A special “thank you” to Dr. John Warner, Dr. Jonathan Dowell, and Devrie Hahn for the exceptional care and guidance they have provided over the last several years.

A memorial service was held Dec. 6 at Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, Highland Park Presbyterian Church Foundation or the Southwestern Medical Foundation.
Bob will be missed, but never forgotten.
