Rise and Shine, Park Cities (04-18-11)

  1. On Saturday, in broad daylight, a University Park resident was cleaning out his garage in the 3800 block of Hanover when he was approached by a black male who demanded money. The homeowner’s wife heard a scuffle and when she opened the door, the suspect- who had been wearing a bandana over his face- took off running. Chief Gary Adams of the UPPD confirmed the suspect, 26 year old Casey Howard of Garland, was arrested a few blocks away. He added that a gun was found Sunday morning in the 3500 block of Hanover in an overturned trashcan. UPPD is working to determine if the gun was the weapon used in the attempted robbery.
  2. So I noticed this for the first time a few years ago. At 7:45 a.m. the bread has already been delivered to a Snider Plaza restaurant (see photo) and left out front until someone gets there to open the place. Ewwww. At least it’s on a table today. I’ve seen it sitting on the ground before too.
  3. Get your tax docs postmarked today or they’re late.

Bread deliveries like this are very common all over. Remember in “You’ve Got Mail” when we see the day getting started? My brother delivered for a bakery and it’s not uncommon.

Robbery attempt: scary! Thanks to Chief Adams and the UP Police for all they do to keep our Bubble safe.

Bread delivery: disturbing, although not enough to make me stop dining anywhere in Snider Plaza. If the activity (garbage management/weird restroomlocation/malevolent grackles giving you sideways stink-eye) in the Bubba’s drive thru doesn’t give me pause, nothing else will.

Tax day: the day after my birthday. My dollar-to-gift ratio has always gotten screwed by this.

    That is all.

Gross how? You post an easily identifiable photo of someone’s restaurant and call one of their food services practices “gross,” based on what? The bread is clearly wrapped, and it’s sitting on a table. Seems to me they’re going out of their way to get freshly delivered bread. You have no qualifications of any kind, and ought not render inflammatory, business-damaging opinions. I hope you get sued by that restaurant.

Note that the above poster is the lowercase rico.

I don’t hope you get sued. I don’t really see a problem with wrapped bread sitting on a table. If it is a health code violation to deliver fresh bread in that manner, I’m sure someone will educate us.

Seems like it would be ok to drop off fully wrapped bread during the winter months but not so much during the summer heat.

Bread wrapped in wrappers sits on store shelves for days. Before that it sits in a truck, goes through the loading dock at least twice (at the bakery and at the grocery store). If you’re squeamish about the bread delivery I can’t imagine how you get through a typical meal.

Merritt-Have you ever once eaten fast food? If you have, I can assure you that you’ve eaten far worse than bread sitting on a table outside.

I recognize that restaurant, too. I haven’t eaten there in 6 years or so; the last time I was there, I found a pubic hair (sorry, not a typo) in my tea.

Like Merritt, maybe all the robber wanted was a fresh loaf of bread!

I don’t see why bread wrapped in plastic evokes “ewww”, but I also enjoy Merritt’s postings and believe that she is entitled to her opinion regarding what she finds to be “ewww”.

It doesn’t require a genius to envisage several unsanitary scenarios that could easily unfold with the abandoned bread. Hmmm, there could be rodent and/or avian contamination (yes, shockingly, both birds and rats can penetrate plastic), adulteration by a malevolent individual, etc. To those who have posted in astonishment that anyone would consider this of concern, I guess sometimes it would be convenient to go through life oblivious to apparent risks – at least until luck runs out.

Those of you who don’t get Merritt’s “Ewwww” obviously don’t know about her serious case of germaphobia. Or her aversion to roaches in food. Something that seems perfectly normal to many people can become a bad 3-D horror flick in her slightly wacky mind ; )

Armed robbery in broad daylight Saturday afternoon, and the biggest worry here is loaves of bread in a bag? Hmmm.

@logic – can’t anyone give worst case scenarios for anything food related whether “abandoned” or not? I don’t think people are “obilvious to apparent risks” – they just recognize when there is an overreaction to something that isn’t nearly as nefarious as Merritt makes it out to be.

*You do not have a CLUE how your business damaging opinion and photos affect hard working independent small business owners. Being a small business owner myself I am appalled by you! Find somebody else to pick on!!

“Gross” or “yummy” are opinions, not facts. I’m in the “yummy” crowd – I’m happy to read/see that one of our favorite restaurants has daily fresh bread deliveries which must come from a local baker.
