Rise and Shine, Park Cities (5-5-2011)

Mornin’!

Aside from my typical last-minute-gift scramble, Sunday’s approach has me thinking about mamas, kids, and helping hands.

1. For starters, Tom Brokaw is in town today for the Genesis Women’s Shelter’s annual Mother’s Day Luncheon. And get this: the sold-out event is being chaired by three generations of Hunts: Nancy Ann Hunt, Ashlee Hunt Kleinert, Heather Hunt Graham and Connie Kleinert.

2. Queen Mother Esther Nartekie Kpabitey, of Ghana’s Every Child is Our Child program, will make a special presentation Saturday at First Unitarian Church of Dallas.

3. And through Saturday, Stanley Korshak is offering a 20 percent discount to anyone who buys a $100 Share our Strength card to combat childhood hunger. You can read more about SOS here. For the record, a big sale started yesterday at Korshak anyway — shoes, handbags, etc. —  so it’s probably worth getting a move-on.
