Liveblogging Game One of Area Finals Against North Dallas

7:36 p.m. After a lovely rendition of the Star Spangled Banner from the Lads and Lassies, we’re off to a great start in the first. Matt Wilson already has one K, and North Dallas failed to make it on base.

7:37 p.m. Lead-off hitter Gottsacker gets on first. Visitor side stands are starting to fill out with Scots. Gottsacker steals second, and Stainback advances him to third on a drive to left field.

7:40 p.m. Gottsacker makes it home after a sac fly from McDade, who nailed a walkoff homer at the Scots’ last game.

Jump for more …

7:44 p.m. Beginning to think I should have scored one of those awesome portable stadium seats everyone has. It would probably make being packed in here like sardines a little more palatable.

7:47 p.m. Wilson gets his second strikeout of the game in the second inning.

7:50 p.m. And a foul ball from a North Dallas player (Leija, I think) has made it across Lovers.

7:53 p.m. North Dallas has their first hit, but Torres is out thanks to an unassisted play at first base.

7:56 p.m. May hits a serious line drive to center and takes first. Many “oohs” were shouted.

8 p.m. Justin Galvan bounces one over center for a ground-rule double. Runners are at second and third, with Romo in scoring position now with two outs. Nails are being bitten.

8:04 p.m. Gottsacker leaves two men on base at the end of the second. Bummer.

8:06 p.m. Seeing lots of non-white shirts in the stands. Husband and I are feeling better about our sartorial choices. Also, this cool breeze is distracting me from the very loud tweenage conversations buzzing about.

8:12 p.m. Wilson earns his third strikeout.

8:21 p.m. Score is 3-0, with the Scots earning some momentum.

8:24 p.m. And Wilson gets his fifth strikeout.

8:27 p.m. Music between innings is excellent. Whoever is selecting the tunes is to be commended.

8:29 p.m. Galvan takes first after taking one to the leg from North Dallas pitcher Jonathan Torres. Ouch.

8:31 p.m. And Galvan strays too far from second and is thrown out by North Dallas’ catcher.

8:37 p.m. Fans at Scotland Yard are packed in like Aggies at the Dixie Chicken on a Thursday night. Elbows and knees are everywhere.

8:45 p.m. Torres pitches one to McElroy’s ankles for the third HBP in three innings.

8:48 p.m. Thanks to a walk for Jake Howeth, the score is now 4-0. North Dallas is bringing in Ivan Rodriguez, who is much taller than Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez. Bases are loaded and May is at the plate.

8:52 p.m. May pushes a sac fly to center and McDade scores, upping the Scots’ lead to 5-0.

8:56 p.m. Morales gets North Dallas’ second hit by bouncing one up in the infield.

8:58 p.m. Romo makes an epic snag in left field. Wilson takes one too close to N. Dallas’ Hernandez, who takes a base. Two on, one out, top of the sixth.

9:02 p.m. Wilson earns his seventh strikeout on North Dallas’ Luna. A fly ball to center gets the third out.

9:11 p.m. Scots are up 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth. Fans are clearing the stands, making things more comfy for the diehards.

9:13 p.m. Stainback launches one to left field for a triple, bringing home two Scots. McDade tosses an anchor over the left field wall for a two-run homer. Score is now 9-0 in the bottom of the sixth with only one out.

9:18 p.m. Game over. Jake Howeth launches one over the center field wall for a two-run homer, making the final score 11-0 and ending the game in the bottom of the sixth thanks to the 10-run rule.

Congrats, Scots!

Dan Koller will be on duty tomorrow night. I’ll try to convince him to liveblog it, but I couldn’t have done this tonight without my dear husband, Dave, keeping score so I could refer to his notes.

Also, several fans without the iPhone dugout app around us kept asking him for updates (happens a lot at Rangers games).

I completely agree. Was the best play by play in many years. Excellent job and great idea to provide the blog coverage.

I’m so glad y’all enjoyed it! I did feel kind of rude being on my iPhone the entire game, but when folks around me found out I was blogging the game, they were much more understanding!

Joanna- I would’ve appreciated a separate live-blog about the song choices. Slacker.
