What’s in a (Always-Changing, Semi-Relevant) Name?

I was driving on Lovers Lane yesterday afternoon when I spotted this bumper sticker. It’s for the 2012 Highland Park track team.

I see these stickers a lot, for every HP team. And I think they’re cool; I really do. I just have a few logistical questions.

1. Say your kid is on this team for four years running. Do you, as a parent, place the new sticker over last year’s sticker? Side by side? Buy a new car?

2. Who picks the name? Senior captains?

3. Is there any concern that this annual rebranding is hurting the Scots brand?

Again, I like it. Don’t kill me.

Can’t answer your questions. I don’t do bumper stickers. Outside the Bubble it is just as well others don’t know you’re from here.

On the other hand, inside the Bubble, an HP bumper sticker on an old car may keep the police from stopping it for an “expired inspection sticker” that hasn’t expired, or other bogus reason.

The tradition started out with the football team and it was eventually copied by the rest of the teams. Now there is exponential annual rebranding.

I like them too. My favorite was Sole Sisters for Cross Country.

    1. Take it off and put the new one on.
    2. We always had a day or so to come up with ideas, of which the captains/coaches picked 5, which we as a team then voted on.
    3. Bradford, the Scots brand never changes, just the individual team slogan for the year. So, no.

I love the stickers/slogans. It’s a fun way to show team spirit, and much better than having your kid’s name on the back of the car. The slogans are also on the posters. Go HP!

    Tasteless semi serious joke:

Maybe next year’s bumper stickers should include the text “How’s my driving” and a phone number to the coach’s voicemail.
