HP Parks Employee Honored For Saving Cyclist
On Oct. 14, at 8:30 a.m., Jimmy Contreras, a foreman in Highland Park’s parks department, was working near the intersection of Versailles and Armstrong when he saw a cyclist go down.
He provided lifesaving first aid, while waiting for HPDPS to arrive. Eventually the cyclist began breathing again.
For that, Contreras was recognized during Monday’s Town Council meeting.
“The big deal, usually, is that no one wants to participate,” in life-saving measures like this, DPS Chief Chris Vinson said. “In this instance, Jimmy did.”
So, if you see Jimmy around at one of the parks, shake his hand. You never know the next time you may need him.
