Prepare For More Work on Beverly Drive

The Highland Park Town Council approved $730,000 worth of improvements for Beverly Drive Monday morning, launching Phase II of the street’s rehabilitation plan.

The project will repair the sub-base of the street, curbs and gutters, and sidewalks from Preston Road to Oxford Drive. Work also includes the milling and resurfacing of Beverly in the same stretch, and the block of Stratford Avenue between Fairfield and Eton.

Highland Park received five bids for the project; the $730,000 from Lewisville-based Camino Construction was the lowest. The work is expected to take 180 days.

Preston and Beverly you say? What was the work being done at Preston and Beverly over the past few months? Are we having to repair that work? If so, why is the paving contractor not on the hook to repair their shoddy work. Don’t we require bid/performance bonds when work is done for the city/town like every other municipality in the world that would force them to come back out and do the work correctly?

Avid Reader- The work done then was part of Phase I, which is west of Preston. And, there was work done there that needed to be repaired, and the contractor was on the hook for it. That happened a few months ago.

    Thanks for reading.

@Avid Reader, I believe Mr. Pearson forgot to tell you about the several “other” newly paved places that were dug up on Beverly because of poor quality during Phase I.

Take a look at the quality of the road driving West to the intersection of Beverly and Westside. Sad. My motto is “cheaper is not better.” I believe you get what you pay for. I can simply look at sections West of Beverly Dr. and see problems.

If the “town” is going to rebuild Beverly Dr., then at least the sidewalks could have been redone and not patched. It is very uneven in places and looks bad for a town like HP. I don’t know whether to shake my head or chuckle.

IN SHOCK!.. but come on HP Town Administration and HP Town Council, whoever approved the use of caulk around the red fired brick sidewalk borders (at the street corners), needs a time out. Take a walk on Beverly Dr. on the east side of Preston Road and look for yourself.

Please do the town and taxpayers a BIG favor and redo it correctly. HP can do much better than this. And this is reconstruction costing millions of dollars? This is not quality. Of course all said im my own opinion. Best wishes.
