Republican Runoff Ends Tonight for HP’s Miller

After Republican runoff voting wraps at 7 p.m. tonight, we’ll  know if State Board of Education candidate Geraldine “Tincy” Miller, of Highland Park, has won against her opponent Gail Spurlock — and who’ll face Democrat Lois Parrott in November.

The winning SBOE Republican will probably also face George Clayton, who says he’ll run as a write-in candidate. Clayton, if you’ll recall, was a relatively moderate board member who won Miller’s seat in 2010 after she’d held it for 20+ years, and then he lost in the primaries. He came out as gay while in office, and says he’s been “trashed beyond belief.”

The Tea-Party-backed Spurlock is taking heat for not having a college degree (and again, the Pilgrims/Commies thing). Miller, who’s part of the Henry S. Miller real estate family, is known for being a hard conservative, dwarfing her opponents financially, and being a stubborn protector of the Permanent School Fund.
