HPISD Announces Teachers of The Year

Yep, I’ve got another list-heavy item from the HPISD front, but this one’s a little cheerier than GPA-policy revisions and relatively tight budget lines. The school district has just announced its 2012-2013 Teachers of the Year.

They are:

  • Betsy Bogdovitz – second grade, Armstrong Elementary
  • Kristen Fisher –  fourth grade, Bradfield Elementary
  • Kristan Perryman – first grade, Hyer Elementary
  • Leigh Ann Mewhirter – first grade, University Park Elementary
  • Ericca Vandagriff – fifth-grade science, McCulloch Intermediate
  • Sarah McMullen – seventh-grade science, HPMS
  • Jay Harris – law, criminal justice, and business teacher; head athletic trainer at Highland Park High School

Honorees get $1,000 each from the HP Education Foundation, plus a month’s use of a Volkswagen from Boardwalk Park Cities Volkswagen (A Jetta? A Beetle? I couldn’t tell you. But a Google image search just pulled up this strangely gorgeous thing, which is probably reserved for Teacher of the Century)  .

Congratulations to Coach Harris – this is a long overdue recognition for a teacher/coach/friend that has been a great influence on so many HP kids.

    for pete’s sake,
coach harris is an HP fixture/legend!
local guy makes good, to the benefit
    of a generation of scots.
plus, he does a great job of announcing
    the graduates names during commencement
    every spring.
probably doesn’t charge extra for it, either.
