Preston Hollow Resident Sam Childers Talks Hotels, History at Worth Hotel Reopening

In 1904, Worth Hotel was serving hotcakes to travelers passing through Carrollton, Texas. Tomorrow, it reopens for guests of Dallas Heritage Village.

Fancy-fications include a restored exterior and an interior exhibit detailing the history of those who stayed and lived in the hotel. No word on whether or not free pillow-chocolates will be given out at the opening, but regardless…you should go.

Why? Two (main) reasons:

1. Because Preston Hollow resident/historian/museum-consultant/writer extraordinaire Sam Childers will be speaking on the history of Dallas hotels. The author of Images of America: Historic Dallas Hotels, Childers has served on the staffs of the Old Red Museum, the Sixth Floor Museum, and the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum. You don’t want to miss his perspective.

2. Dallas Heritage Village Junior Historians will be on-hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony. Comprised of students from across the Metroplex, the Junior Historians are beyond cool. Check out this bit from a press release detailing what they’ve been up to:

“Through census records, newspaper articles and memories from a boy who grew up in the hotel, the Historians put together a snapshot of life at the hotel in 1910. They have developed new exhibit materials including signage, cell phone tours, and are presently working on a You Tube Video.”

So modern, this historical hotel. You’re convinced that you should check-in, aren’t you? Thought so. Plug these event details into your iCalendar:
