Did Anyone Catch “Mockingbird Lane” on NBC?

"Mockingbird Lane" casts Jerry O'Connell as Herman, Mason Cook as Eddie, Portia de Rossi as Lily. (NBC)

Without any planning, I stumbled upon Friday night’s broadcast of Mockingbird Lane, NBC’s modern rendition of the 1960’s hit comedy, The Munsters. Wouldn’t it be funny — I thought — if the setting happened to be the Mockingbird Lane in Highland Park.

I watched the show looking for clues that this might be set in Dallas. A few details made me hopeful: 1) A neighbor pronounced “Tim” in two syllables with a Southern twang, and 2) The Munsters’ movers are Spanish-speaking (this could be California or Texas.) Then, the Golden Gate Bridge appeared in a few backdrops.

Google Maps confirms there is no 1313 Mockingbird Lane in Highland Park. Bummer. But the show was pretty fantastic. There’s talk that NBC might shelve it as a one-time special, but let’s hope it sticks around a little longer than GCB or The Good Guys.

If this is based on the old Munster’s, they lived in Mockingbird Heights. My favorite episode has such park cities undertones. It’s the one where they get invited to the Mockingbird Heights Country Club.
