Broadway Dancer to Teach Master Classes at Highland Park High School, Plaza Health Foods

Tony nominee John Selya will teach a master class in theater dance technique on Monday morning at Highland Park High School. The class was arranged with the help of Plaza Health Foods owner Max Fuqua, who used to pound the boards with Selya in New York.

“I remember the importance of meeting professional dancers early in my dance career, for insight into the job and inspiration to achieve my goals,” Fuqua said. “I want the high school drama students to have the opportunity to learn from a highly acclaimed, professional Broadway dancer just what it takes to make it on Broadway.”

In cooperation with HPHS theater arts chairperson Linda Raya, Selya will give a demonstration of some of his own work, then demonstrate several basic techniques widely used in stage productions, lead students in learning those techniques, and give individual instruction. He will finish with a question-and-answer period.

Master classes for adults, kids, and teens will be open to the public in the studio at Plaza Health Foods on Wednesday. Call the store for times and to reserve a spot.
