This is Why You Should Always Lock Your Doors
Here’s this week’s batch of unusual lawbreaking activities. As always, pick up this week’s paper for our complete police blotter.
At around 7 p.m. on Monday, an employee of Macy’s at NorthPark Center watched two minors try to steal more than $700 worth of cologne. While one of the miscreants held open a Macy’s shopping bag, his accomplice filled it with 10 bottles of cologne and two pairs of socks. One of the youths was arrested and the other was taken to a juvenile detention center.
At 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday, a resident of the 6100 block of Aberdeen Avenue woke up to strange noises inside his house. When he went to investigate, he discovered a thief who had entered through his unlocked front door. The resident chased the intruder from his home, but the thief escaped with a laptop and some tools. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – pleasepleaseplease lock your doors!

Between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Friday, a thief stole a $3,000 five-ton Carrier air-conditioning unit from a home being built in the 6800 block of Woodland Drive. Talk about HEAVY lifting.
Between 9:20 and 9:30 a.m. on Monday, a thief stole $500 worth of laundry, various insurance cards, and a vehicle manual from a black 2007 Toyota SUV in the 4300 block of West Lovers Lane. This is not the first time that I’ve seen a vehicle manual stolen – in fact, I see it in the reports pretty regularly. I can’t help but wonder what good this would do a thief? Perhaps they just grab everything in sight?
At 1:20 p.m. on Monday, police were called to Macy’s in NorthPark Center, where a shoplifter was detained for trying to steal two pairs of Levi’s jeans. Officers also found a couple of fake 100-dollar bills and what are believed to be a couple of blunts in the swindler’s pocket. What the report doesn’t say (but I’m going to infer) is that it was the odd waddling movement caused by wearing three pairs of pants that tipped the employees off.
