Following Saturday’s playoff loss to Prosper that ended Highland Park’s season, head coach Fred Oliver announced his retirement. The announcement comes on the heels of girls athletic director and cross country head coach Jerry Suttefield announcing his retirement.

In four seasons at Highland Park, Oliver compiled a 101-43-2 record. For his career, which included stops at Plainview, Lufkin and Lubbock Monterrey, Oliver is 587-321-3 in 28 years as a head coach. He has also recently been inducted into the National High School Baseball Coaches Association and Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association’s halls of fame.
