Jewelry Institution Closing in HP Village
Tomorrow will be a sad day in Highland Park Village, as Calame Jewelers will close its doors for the last time. Since 1942, Calame’s has been selling, cleaning, and repairing some of the most beautiful jewelry in the Park Cities.
For me, it holds a special place in my heart. After graduating college wayyy back in 1980, I strolled into the jewelry store looking for Betty Calame. I needed a necklace fixed.
“Betty Calame no longer owns the store,” came the reply. “What!!!” was my response.
Jo, Joe, and Steve Nichols introduced themselves as the new owners, and we’ve been fast friends ever since. They offered me my first job after college. They are the best, and both they and the store will be deeply missed.
