Germany Park Closed ‘Until Further Notice’

You know what your parents used to say: “it’s the kids who break the rules that ruin it for everyone.”

Notice went up on the University Park website on Thursday that Germany Park is closed until further notice. The post cites a combination of heavy rain and damage from “non-sanctioned use of the field by soccer camps, a men’s socccer league and fitness classes” as the reason for the closure. Guess maybe that’s partly why that little ol’ parks vote happened this month. Maybe you remember it.

Anyway, the track will remain open, but otherwise: get off the grass! (I tried to find a clip from The Princess Diaries where this phrase is shouted in three different languages, but no such luck.)

UPDATE:

The tennis courts and playground south of the field are also still available for use.

    Um, LOVE that scene! That entire movie, actually. I can literally quote every line in it, and I’m not ashamed to admit that.

    This was the best I could find: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGSFZ3jvuvE — it’s been slightly repurposed by some genius at George Mason University, but if you skip to 12 seconds in, you can watch the hilarity.

    Thanks for making me laugh!

    I’ve always wondered about the Saturday adult soccer league that seems to play, no matter what the weather or condition of the field. Do they reserve the field? Is it a percentage of UP residents (there is no way that UP has that many adult, male soccer players)?

    @Steve Mace, can you help??
