Weren’t these states’ rights kinds of issues pretty much resolved by The Late Unpleasantness?

I realize it’s a different conflict, but the last time a group that included Texas said, “Come and take it,” Sherman did just that.

All the way to the sea.

What freedoms is Washington trying to take from Texas? I’ve been too busy watching Branch and Texas try to take away women’s reproductive rights to notice.

@Avid Reader – Though Brad’s predominant responsibility is the D Healthcare Daily blog, his title as listed within our company is senior editor with D CEO.

@Topham – As I’m sure you know, ‘Come and Take It’ is a reference to the Battle of Gonzales, rather than Sherman’s March. 🙂

@Avid Reader. Two hats, one desk. I write and edit for D CEO, and write and edit for D Healthcare Daily.

You didn’t read Topham’s comment carefully enough. His point is, the last time Texas fought in a war, we lost. To the Union.

@Sarah Bennett: Yeah, I got the distinction. That’s why I said, “I realize it’s a different conflict…” But as Mr. Branch is using “Come and Take It” as a message to Washington, it’s worth remembering that when Texas and its confederates (did you what I did there?) double-dog-dare the feds, it doesn’t always turn out the way Texas anticipates.

Does anyone else find it off-putting that Mr. Branch paid someone to film him for a political advertisement while he was praying? I know lots of politicians do it, but it seems to me to be in bad taste. “Appearing to be a Godly person can help me politically? Let’s do it!”

Mr. Branch has been in office for over 10 years now for District 108. He seems to be a fine man with a beautiful family. But really, in that time, what has he accomplished? I see one bill that he worked on a few years ago about the state university system. I see nothing of substance dealing with the public schools (as @jethro so eloquently noted). I don’t see where he ever reached across party lines and actually worked with someone else. Lots of party line votes and coattail riding. I would love to see a bullet point list of just what Dan Branch has actually done over the last 10 years as a state legislator.
