UP Finance Director is Leaving Us, Too

What’s going on, University Park? Police Chief Gary Adams just announced he will leave the Park Cities for Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and now finance director Kent Austin has said he’s leaving for Prosper, Texas. What, do we smell or something?

“The challenge of working in a fast-growing community appealed to me,” he said in a statement.  “I am looking forward to taking what I’ve learned in University Park and applying it in a new setting.”

Sigh. I guess we won’t take it personally. I guess.

Austin has been with UP since 1987, and calls it a “special place.” City manager Bob Livingston said he will miss Austin “more than anyone” and noted his successful work ethic.

Austin’s last day with the city will be Sept. 24. City Controller Tom Tvardzik will serve as interim Director of Finance.

I will certainly miss Kent, after working with his leadership on our citizen committee the past seven years. He is the consummate professional, smart and very dedicated to CUP My friends in Prosper will be the excited to know he will be joining their city.

It appears from all the rumblings at city hall that there is much more to these departures than just new opportunities. Seems like the same path as Dallas city hall from the rumors.

I guess this means we’ll be contacting the Univ of Kansas placement office for another employee. Can’t Bob Livingstone hire someone who’s from Texas or went to college in Texas? Why do all of the mgt employees have to be graduates of U of Kansas? Seems like a system that’s rigged to ensure loyalty to the city mgr……..and not the residents of our city.

    Good comment T-bone!
The reason for all the departures is exactly that…the city’s continued loyalty to KU interns being quickly moved from department to department, without proper expertise and then being placed into positions where they don’t belong.
There is getting ready to be a mass departure of employees who have extensive experience with the city and have just been bidding their time. With that, a wealth of internal knowledge will be gone. Why have those people not shared their knowledge? Because they’ve been screwed over so many times by the management of UP! Welcome to the rein of the golden boy, Robbie Corder.

Since the HP Community League supporter who lives down the street from me screamed in front of my home (and at me)…..something absurd like… “you don’t have a job”…maybe I can get on over at UP Town Hall. I wish folks like this would simply mind their own home and personal business. Chuckle and more chuckling.

I wonder if the city manager would hire me (Mr. Bob Livingston?)

    Merry Christmas.

    Sam.
