After trailing at halftime of Thursday’s District 10-4A opener against Forney, Highland Park scored touchdowns on six straight possessions to roll to a 52-17 victory at City Bank Stadium.

Quarterback Brooks Burgin threw for 293 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 65 yards and three more scores to lead the offense. On defense, the Scots gave up two touchdowns on Forney’s first three possessions before holding the Jackrabbits (1-3, 0-1) to a field goal the rest of the way. Highland Park (3-1, 1-0) also forced three turnovers.

“It was just a matter of urgency,” Scots head coach Randy Allen said. “I’ll give Forney credit for playing a really good half against us. They took the opening kickoff and drove down and scored. They seemed to have a lot of momentum in the first half.  We seemed to take it back and pretty much score at will after that.”

The Scots will be back at home next week to take on North Forney.
