The Texas Girls Coaches Association on Monday named Highland Park senior Natalie Rathjen as its 4A-5A cross country athlete of the year.

It’s the latest in a long line of honors this fall for Rathjen, who won the individual Class 4A cross country state title on Nov. 9 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. She also led the Lady Scots to a runner-up team finish.

At the state meet, Rathjen’s time of 17 minutes, 41 seconds over the 5-kilometer course was more than 36 seconds faster than second-place finisher Evelyn Chavez of New Caney Porter. It also set a new 4A record for the state meet.
