Dog Dies in University Park House Fire

Fire caused substantial damage to a two-story home in the 3700 block of Hanover Avenue on Wednesday afternoon. University Park’s 911 dispatch center was alerted to the emergency by the home’s security system.

The emergency call was received at 12:58 p.m., and flames were shooting out of the first-floor windows when University Park firefighters arrived. Smoke damage extended to the home’s third-floor attic area.

Upon arrival, firefighters immediately searched the residence; no one was home. However, a dog inside did not survive.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated at press time. Dollar loss has yet to be determined.

The University Park Fire Department was assisted on the scene by personnel from Highland Park and Dallas.
