Latest Honor is Key for Spieth
Jordan Spieth has opened plenty of doors on the PGA Tour. Now he’s got a key that won’t open anything.
The Jesuit graduate was given an honorary “key to the city” on Wednesday by Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings at the beginning of the Dallas City Council meeting.
It’s noteworthy that Spieth was the first recipient of a key to the city during Rawlings’ mayoral tenure.
“He is a man of quality and dignity, and somebody who we are all proud of for being a citizen of Dallas,” Rawlings said.
Spieth, 20, was named the top rookie on the PGA Tour this year after becoming the first teenager to win a Tour event in more than 80 years at the John Deere Classic in July. He also played on the United States team in the Presidents Cup this fall.
“I’m very proud to be a Texan, and more specifically a resident of the city of Dallas,” Spieth said. “It’s home for me, and always has been and always will be. This is very humbling for me.”
