Rathjen Set to Run Along the Beach
She’s already conquered Texas. Now Natalie Rathjen is taking on the rest of the country as well.
On Saturday, the Highland Park High School senior is scheduled to face some of the top high school runners in the nation at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships at Balboa Park in San Diego.
Rathjen, who won an individual title at the Class 4A state cross country meet earlier this fall, raced last Saturday at the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Ore. She finished 18th overall with a time of 17 minutes, 57 seconds, over a 5-kilometer course.
And on Nov. 30, Rathjen finished third at the Foot Locker South Regional Championship in Charlotte, N.C., in a time of 17:06, which qualified her for this week’s event.
