See Salzman on Big Screen, Then in Person

You can see this movie on Monday at Highland Park Village.
Go see this movie instead of The Nut Job on Monday at the Highland Park Village Theatre.

The 2014 installment of the Highland Park Literary Festival is right around the corner, and its keynote speaker will be author Mark Salzman, whose appearance is scheduled for Feb. 27 at Highland Park High School.

More on that later. But one of Salzman’s books, his memoir Iron & Silk, was made into a movie of the same name in 1990. Salzman stars in the drama, which chronicles his time spent in China as an English teacher during the early 1980s, when he studies martial arts and finds romance against a backdrop of political repression.

The low-budget film drew strong reviews upon its limited release. At 7 p.m. on Monday, it will be shown on the big screen at the Highland Park Village Theatre. It’s rated PG, and admission is a $10 donation. If nothing else, it should provide some great questions to ask the author of the source material next month.
