Arrest Made in Sexual Assault Case

rsz_harris_torey_jamalTorey Jamal Harris, 23, of Dallas was arrested on an alleged aggravated sexual assault by Navarro College Department of Public Safety in Corsicana on Sept. 15.

After the University Park Police Department released a sketch of the suspect for the Sept. 7 assault at Rosedale Avenue and Willard Drive, Navarro College law enforcement noticed the appearance was similar to that of their own suspect.

When UPPD detectives interviewed Harris, he confessed to the Sept. 7 assault in such a way that revealed his intimate knowledge of the crime. UPPD then issued arrest warrants.

“We want to point out that we’re still very early in the investigation,” UP police chief Greg Spradlin said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Harris is being held in the Navarro County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

That police sketch is unreal. It looks just like the guy! Good old fashioned police work. Great job UPPD!

Excellent job by UPPD. The crime rate along the “wall” between Lovers and University is an ongoing problem. Why doesn’t UP close access directly to this area from those streets? It is too easy to sneak in and out of the neighborhood without fences at Lovers and University.

Great detective work by UP Police and Navarro College Officers. The suspect (allegedly) hid and waited behind an elevated landscaping mound and structure in the park. I sincerely hope that this mound and structure are removed as soon as possible.

So, seven weeks later. The City of UP has installed bright lights in the park. However, the elevated landscaping structure that the (alleged) rapist hid behind is still in place, and is still large enough for a grown man to hide behind. Why does this hiding place for rapists and other criminals remain in a public park?
