Police Report: September 29 to October 5


SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: Not A Pretty Picture

Between 6 p.m. on Sept. 26 and 8 a.m. on Sept. 29, a thief stole $12,199 worth of photography equipment from an unlocked room at Highland Park High School. Surveillance cameras caught a glimpse of the miscreant, and when he returned to the campus around 6 p.m. on Sept. 30, an officer confronted him. Nicholas Eric Villegas, 18, of North Richland Hills was arrested on a burglary charge. Most of the stolen items have been recovered and returned.


HIGHLAND PARK

29 MONDAY
Between 7:30 and 10:50 a.m., a thief stole a blue 2006 Ford F250 pickup with 37-inch tires and chrome rims, valued at $2,000, from the 4000 block of Gillon Avenue.

At 1:12 p.m., a passerby reported finding clothes and toiletries hanging from some bushes in Lakeside Park. Among the items were a blue button-up shirt, a blue “Obama ’08” T-shirt, a pair of blue slacks, a white undershirt, a pair of white underwear, a tube of Crest toothpaste, a toothbrush, a bar of Irish Spring soap, a razor, a brush, a white towel, and a can of Barbasol shaving cream.

At 2:52 p.m., a woman reported that between 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 and 11 a.m. on Sept. 27, a thief entered an unlocked silver 2005 Chevrolet Equinox in the 4600 block of Belclaire Avenue and stole $40 in cash and a driver’s license.

At 3:15 p.m., a man reported that a vandal keyed a 2014 BMW 535i while it was parked in the 4300 block of Armstrong Parkwayon Sept. 27, causing $1,700 in damage.

At 7:40 p.m., a thief stole an $840 iPhone 6 and accessories after agreeing to buy the phone on Craigslist. Both parties agreed to meet in the 4200 block of Oak Lawn Avenue, where the prospective buyer fled the scene while the seller went to retrieve something from his car. He called 911 while chasing the larcenist between buildings, but could not catch him.

1 WEDNESDAY
Between 4 p.m. on Sept. 30 and 5:26 a.m. on Oct. 1, a burglar broke into a white 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe in the 3200 block of St. Johns Drive and stole a CD case containing various children’s CDs and DVDs, a set of jumper cables, 10 souvenir key chains, a lug-nut key, and $6 in change. During the same time frame, someone rummaged through a white 2013 Ford Expedition in the 3400 block of St. Johns, although nothing was stolen. Also, a burglar broke into a red 2008 Toyota hatchback in the 4700 block of Abbott Avenue and stole a $140 CD case containing various CDs and DVDs, $100 worth of cosmetics, a $40 Dallas Mavericks hat, a $40 Boston Red Sox hat, and various personal papers. Earlier that night, police spotted a man carrying a CD case and jumper cables in the 4700 block of Preston Road. Daniel Alvarez, 48, of Dallas was arrested at 12:15 a.m. on a charge of pedestrian in the roadway.

Between 11 p.m. on Sept. 30 and 7 a.m. on Oct. 1, a thief entered an unlocked black 2010 Mercedes S550 in the 3600 block of Beverly Drive and stole a $500 Samsung phone, a $300 electronic Mercedes key, a $120 pair of Bose earphones, $15 in cash, and an AT&T Stadium underground parking pass.

4 SATURDAY
At 7:10 a.m., an officer noticed a suspicious black Chevrolet sedan blocking an alley in the 3500 block of Harvard Avenue with two boxes on its roof. As the officer approached, the driver sped off, and the boxes fell off the car. The ensuing chase covered Lindenwood, Auburndale, Abbott, and Knox before the perpetrator turned south on North Central Expressway, eventually reaching more than 100 mph before the officer lost sight. The two boxes contained windows stolen from a construction site in the 3500 block of Lindenwood Avenue. The windows were not damaged.

5 SUNDAY
At 4 p.m., Cecil Stone, 52, was arrested in the 4200 block of Mockingbird Lane on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.


UNIVERSITY PARK

29 MONDAY
Between 4 p.m. on Sept. 28 and 8 a.m. on Sept. 29, a thief stole a $400 Trek girls bicycle from a garage in the 3700 block of Northwest Parkway.

30 TUESDAY
At 12:19 p.m., a resident of the 2800 block of Amherst Streetsaid a man approached her in the alley and pointed a pistol. The resident fled on foot and heard a shot fired, but police couldn’t locate a suspect.

1 WEDNESDAY
Between 5 p.m. on Sept. 30 and 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 1, a thief stole $1,400 worth of golf clubs from an unlocked attached garage in the4000 block of Amherst Street.

At 9:30 a.m., a resident of the 2800 block of Dyer Street reported the theft of $5,000 worth of tools from an unspecified vehicle on Sept. 22.

3 FRIDAY
Between 5:20 p.m. on Oct. 2 and 9 a.m. on Oct. 3, a thief stole a $400 Kenneth Cole bag from a sidewalk at The Plaza at Preston Center containing six pairs of scissors valued at $3,000, a $900 pair of prescription glasses, an $800 iPad, and various personal and business checks.

At 2:30 p.m., a resident of the 3300 block of Daniel Avenuereported the theft of a MacBook Air laptop computer, valued at $800, after it was left on a table at Starbucks for five hours.
