While most students are relaxing over the holiday break, basketball players can’t rest this week with the annual holiday tournament slate providing some rigid competition.

The Highland Park boys will compete at the Allen Holiday Invitational, facing Jesuit in the opening round at 4:15 p.m. Monday. HP already defeated the Rangers once this season, 63-50 on Nov. 25. The Scots (7-6) will face either Frisco Wakeland or last year’s Class 5A state champion, Galena Park North Shore, in their second game on Tuesday.

On the girls side, HP is participating in the Dallas ISD Coca-Cola Tournament, and will face Spruce at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Cobb Field House. It will be the first of two games on Monday for the Lady Scots (8-6), who will meet either Madison or Hillcrest in their second game.

After the tournaments, both HP squads will return to District 10-6A action on Friday. The boys will host Mesquite Horn in their district opener, while the girls travel to Horn looking to remain unbeaten in league play.
