See the Art of Laika at Heritage Auctions

Laika is the company responsible for such animated films as Coraline and The Boxtrolls, which is nominated for an Oscar this year. Its unique stop-motion technique marks a change of pace from the computer animation that dominates the marketplace today.

The company — owned by Nike founder Phil Knight — is opening its archives for a traveling auction of more than 250 puppets, models, props, and art from its films. The auction will be held on Feb. 12 in Beverly Hills, Calif., but selected highlights will be on display this week at Heritage Auctions in the Dallas Design District.

A portion of the auction proceeds will benefit The Art of Elysium, a nonprofit arts organization that uses art to inspire children and those in need. Plus, it’s a chance to go behind the scenes for animation buffs.
