HPHS Students Featured in Documentary

As you might expect, a photojournalism project in which some environmental science students from Highland Park High School chronicled both hope and heartbreak at a school in the slums of India made quite an impact for those on both sides of the camera.

In fact, the project — called “Glimpses of My Life” — helped to sprout a short documentary film, Asha (Hope), which will screen at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Dallas philanthropist Donna Wilhelm and including some of the participating HP students, allowing them to share their cross-cultural experiences. The students include Cameron Crews, Hashim Elwazir, Claire Green, Andrew Helmbrecht, and Mikaela Read.

The project included two other high schools in the Dallas area and was sponsored by ConnecTeach, a nonprofit that aims to bring professional development to schools in poor communities and developing countries.
