Ursuline Academy donated a record total of 102,366 cans during its recent Intramurals Can Drive.

Ursuline’s senior class donated 63,024 cans to the Catholic Charities of Dallas Food Pantries, and the other nonprofits are Holy Cross (freshmen), North Dallas Shared Ministries (sophomores), and Metrocrest (juniors).

Student Council president Haley Dotter and vice president Julie Delarosa originally set a goal of $10,000 worth of cans, but the senior class more than doubled it. Dotter and Delarosa mailed letters to each classmate and set up a GoFundMe account, which helped get more of the community involved.

The can drive is part of Ursuline’s Intramurals, a tradition that highlights service, spirit, and creativity.

“This is our favorite part of Intramurals,” Dotter said. “We’ll be picking paint out of finger nails for days, but these cans will be feeding people for weeks.”
