Cary Middle School students and administrators received a surprise today when Dollar General donated $50,000 to the Dallas ISD campus to benefit its reading and literacy programs.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Matt Cassel assisted in the presentation, which involved opening a yellow and black box with a check inside. Cassel later signed autographs at the nearby Dollar General store on Marsh Lane.

The donation is part of the Tennessee-based company’s Reading Revolution program. The retailer chose Cary because of community contributions to its Dollar General Literacy Foundation at its stores.
