Chess Tourney Easy as Pie for Scots Team

Highland Park better get a trophy cabinet ready. The Scots chess team placed first in both the championship and novice divisions of the Dallas Chess Club’s Scholastic K-12 January Classic last Sunday.

In the championship division, captain Austin Mead lead his team as the first-place individual winner with 3.5 out of 4 points. Teammate Tyler Mead placed eighth and Yung Chi — playing in his first rated tournament — finished 12th.

In the novice division, three Scots competed in their first rated tournament. Freshman Matthew Healy placed first with a perfect 4.0. Junior Noah Zinn took second and Clayton Stark took fourth.
