For the second consecutive year, Highland Park was on the brink of elimination in the Class 6A state semifinals before coming through in the clutch.

On Friday, the Lady Scots rallied for a 3-1 overtime win over San Antonio MacArthur in Georgetown. On Saturday, HP will face Flower Mound, aiming to win its first state crown since 2012 after its narrow miss last season.

The Lady Scots (24-2-2) surrendered the opening goal for the third time during their current postseason run, but again battled back with a late flurry. Sarah O’Neal tied the game 1-1 off a feed from Riley Malone in the 60th minute.

HP dominated after that, finally breaking through with two goals about three minutes apart in the second extra session. Savanna Jones tallied the game-winner with less than five minutes remaining, and Natalie Dargene added an insurance goal shortly afterward.

Isabella Von Toussaint scored the goal for the Brahmas (21-6) in the closing minutes of the first half when she headed in a cross from Kyra Falcone.

But HP consistently had more scoring chances on a cool morning. The Lady Scots held a 16-7 advantage in shots on goal, including 6-1 in the two overtime periods, in addition to a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.

Flower Mound rallied for a dramatic 5-4 overtime win over Katy Cinco Ranch in the other semifinal game on Friday. Cinco Ranch fell to HP in a shootout in the semifinals last year.
