Temple Emanu-el to Celebrate Renovations with Community Picnic

Temple Emanu-El wrapped up a two-year-long, $38 million expansion and renovation project this summer. Now they are ready to celebrate.

The 144-year-old synagogue will host a short dedication ceremony to kick off The Picnic on Sunday, Sept. 11, a community event featuring music, docent-led tours, food, workshops, art projects, and activities for kids.

“Today we celebrate our community and rededicate our campus,” Rabbi David Stern said in a press release. Stern has led the congregation as senior rabbi since 1996. “But this historic journey we have been on together is not only about beautiful spaces. It’s about the people who fill them, and who find a connection to one another and to their Judaism.”

Mayor Mike Rawlings is scheduled to attend the event, along with Dallas City Council members Lee Kleinman and Jennifer Staubach Gates. Gary Cunningham, the lead architect for the expansion and renovation project, will also attend.
