The Lamplighter School donated almost 3,000 shoes to Soles4Souls, a nonprofit that distributes shoes and clothing to those in need.

“Around the world, children need shoes in order to go to school,” faculty member Debbie Herskovitz said following an assembly celebrating the accomplishment. “The Lamplighter students learned that their donated shoes are helping less fortunate children attend school. I think that had an impact on them.”

The school has donated more than 16,000 shoes to Soles4Souls since 2012. This year, 24-Hour Fitness and Orange Theory Fitness helped the school collect donations by placing drop boxes in their locations.

“Through this wonderful service project. I think the students gained a better understanding of how their donation will really impact the lives of those less fortunate,” head of school Dr. Joan Hill said.
