The Highland Park girls, as well as their boys counterparts, got off to a strong start by winning a season-opening gymnastics meet in Saginaw.

The Highland Park girls opened the season by winning a compulsory meet in Saginaw on Nov. 3.

Tatum Meeks claimed the all-around title at the meet that also included Saginaw Chisholm Trail, Grapevine, and Colleyville Heritage. Meeks also won vault and uneven bars while finishing third on balance beam and floor exercise.

Lily Overton won on beam and was second on floor and bars. She also was the runner-up in the all-around standings. Allison Walters placed third on vault.

On the boys side, Adam Elahmadi won five events (vault, floor, parallel bars, rings, and pommel horse), including the all-around title. Marshall McIlyar took the horizontal bar title.

Both HP teams will return to action on Nov. 17, with the boys competing in Garland and the girls in Euless.
