Highland Park hopes its best will be saved for last at the Class 5A state cross country meet on Saturday at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

The HP girls will take a full squad to state after finishing fourth in the 5A Region II meet on Oct. 29 in Grand Prairie. The Lady Scots have had at least one runner at the state meet each year for more than four decades.

On the boys side, HP senior Logan Gwinn and freshman Jorge Rodriguez each will compete on the 5-kilometer state course as individual qualifiers from regionals. The girls race will begin at 9:40 a.m., followed by the boys at 10:20 a.m.
