ARLINGTON — Highland Park completed a dream season on Saturday with a 16-7 win over Temple in the Class 5A Division I state championship game at AT&T Stadium.

John Stephen Jones rushed for two touchdowns to earn offensive MVP honors for the Scots (14-2), while a late safety on a sack by Turner Coxe earned him defensive MVP recognition.

Meanwhile, the HP defense turned in another stellar performance by limiting the high-powered Temple offense to just one touchdown in the first half, before the Scots rolled off 16 unanswered points.

It marks the fourth state title for HP, and the first since 2005. Saturday’s win was gritty and tenacious, which are two accurate ways to describe this squad throughout the year. We’ll have plenty more reaction and analysis later on a historic day for the state’s most decorated program.
